Malakai heads up Spinal Home Help as founder and current President. His early football career and stint in project management prepared him for the challenges of running a not-for-profit organisation, drawing on his experiences of injury, recovery and life-fulfilment.
Jillian brings her wealth of legal experience to the Spinal Home Help board. As a Principal at a national law firm, on a daily basis she assists those who have been injured and is a National Injury Insurance Scheme (NIIS) expert. She is a compassionate and empathetic lawyer, driven by a desire to fight for those who need it most, ensuring the law serves everyone and not just those who can afford it.
James is a Certified Accountant with over 20 years' experience in finance and financial management. Working as a commercial analyst in Australia's mining industry, he brings his valuable financial expertise to the Spinal Home Help board.
Julie brings her financial expertise from QPF Finance to the SHH Board, and is the other half of the mighty Tava team. Her tireless support of her husband, Malakai, and his goal to assist people with spinal cord injury, have gone a long way in bringing Spinal Home Help to life.
Marbelly recently joined Spinal Home Help to offer her support and legal expertise. Her work in immigration law and history of volunteering as legal assistant to various charity groups are indicators of her generosity and tireless drive to help others.
Adam currently works as a Campaign Organiser, assisting in the management of many political campaigns across Queensland. He has held positions in Council, State and Federal Government offices, supporting members of parliament and helping to resolve a diverse range of community issues; something he continues to do today. Adam is a strong believer in giving to the community through working extensively with charities and thought leadership groups.
Andrew has been a core part of the SHH team since day one, volunteering at every opportunity. Though his work at Retracom keeps him very busy, he still finds ways to dedicate his time to supporting Spinal Home Help.
Shane is an accountant/auditor working predominantly in the area of Self-managed super fund audit, trust account audit and Not-for-profit entities audit. Shane holds a Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting) and Grad Cert in Commerce (Commercial Law). His work experience in auditing will help to ensure that Spinal Home Help meets its financial, compliance and ethical obligations to the community.
John is the Executive Director of Customer Engagement, Information and Technologies Branch, Department of Education. John has a great deal of interest in how assistive technology can personalise learning and enhance equality and quality of life for those with a disability. John has been working for the Information and Technologies Branch for the last eight years. He joined Spinal Home Help (SHH) in 2018 as a board member and hopes to bring his commitment and technology focus to support the Vision of SHH.
